In 2019, one of the main sterilization plants in Willowbrook permanently closed its facility under intense public pressure after the EPA published data showing that people living and working near the plant were 10 times more likely to develop cancer.
EtO emissions have made the area surrounding the Willowbrook plants one of the top 20 cancer tracts in the US.
